As I said, subdirectories Two and Four never appear on the PC. Two has 20 files in it; Four has if I open the iCloud drive in a Chrome tab, I see all files in all four directories.
As a workaround, I figured I could download the files with iCloud in Chrome, create the Two and Four subdirectories manually, and copy the files into those subdirectories. However, when I tried to create the subdirectories on my PC, they immediately got renamed Two 2 and Four 2. So it appeals the PC knows somehow that Two and Four exist, but it just isn't displaying them for some reason. I tried another workaround: on my Mac, I made another directory named Affinity Designer SRB, and copied all four subdirectories into the new directory, Then I went and rebooted the PC - and this time, subdirectories One and Four showed up; Two and Three were nowhere to be seen. Four ended up with 58 of the 75 files in it - I downloaded the ones it missed, and now it has all 75 files which tells me it's not a problem with an individual file in Four, at least.
I have checked to see that iCloud is up to date on my PC. Everything but iCloud is working fine, so it's not network related. The only thing I haven't tried is logging out of iCloud and back in - with 30, pictures, that's no small endeavor. I'm running Windows 10 Build and up to date Apple operating systems. it might be preferable to have iCloud do its syncing elsewhere on your hard drive. That having been said, it's working as advertised and I've disabled the other sync program I use iDrive for that particular folder. Finally, if you have the space available and don't want to mess around with some pictures local and others in the cloud, just right click the Photos folder in the parent folder the iCloud Photos folder and check the Always keep on this device option, and every photo that get uploaded from your camera will automatically download and be local on the device.
Just remember, that if you remove it from your phone for example, it's going to be removed from the PC even though it's local at the time. Move it to another place folder on your HD if you really want to keep it despite what happens on your phone or the iCloud website May 10, PM in response to rubyvoo. If your intentions are to download photos, here's what I did. I wanted to store the photos in an external drive so I just copied and pasted the whole chunk into a folder in my external drive while it is still "Online" Cloud icon. I found a pretty weird way to download it onto the PC too if that's what you want. Select the photos you want, right click, then click "Open". It forces the PC to download the photos first before opening it, that was the only way i managed to get the cloud icon to turn into a green tick.
Ok thanks big time for replying. I was able to download my 26K photos by going to iCloud. com and downloading at a time the max Apple allows from iCloud. I appreciate your input on other ways to do it. If you or anyone get the iCloud for Windows to function as a "syncing" tool in regards to photos as is supposed to be it's function using iCloud library, I sure would appreciate any update in this thread. So it appears with iCloud rev 11, the ability to download to the old downloads folder has been removed. If I'm reading that correctly that is very disappointing. I used that feature regularly to import photos into a local photo library and into Lightroom.

Just to make matters worse, when you download the files from the cloud, the file date is the current date rather than the date taken from the meta data - back to plugging in the phone to download - a giant step backwards. It is great that Apple wants us beholden to their cloud, but I have s of thousands of images - that is just not possible.

I assume my iCloud for Windows auto updated, its now on version Now that option is gone. This function was literally the ONLY reason I installed iCloud for Windows to begin with. Paid a small fortune for my iPhone. Can't believe they would remove this function. It's going to create MORE work for me to save and backup my images. Sorry Apple, but I have uses for my photos that go beyond the cloud service. I'll be looking for other cloud options that have that function. Please let me know if you know of a good one. If you want to send new photos to your devices that don't use iCloud Photos, you can turn My Photo Stream back on in iCloud Photo Options. What do I need to use iCloud Photos on my PC? I either use Google Drive or iCloud Drive so OneDrive isn't even a necessity for me. Restart your computer. Thanks for your feedback.
